Although I had been working as a care provider previously when my mother became ill I had an opportunity to go and live with her and take care of her through her final days. It was a difficult experience but very rewarding at the same time. I would not trade those few months that I was afforded to be with her. That is when I truly realized the difference you make in someone's life when you take the time to meet them where they are and to be able to make their way a little easier. I enjoy the job of care providing because it offers me the chance to get to know someone on a level that might not be available to me under other circumstances. It's an opportunity to not just relieve pain or discomfort but also to relieve stress and anxiety about the unknown in someone whose health is failing. Also in the elderly where there is confusion and fear a care provider can bring a consistency that can be depended on and solve some of the unknown for that person.
