Elder Care Job in Winnipeg, Manitoba

Live-in caregiver required for 80-year-old woman with dementia. My mom has advancing dementia and is requiring an increasing amount of care in her home, where she currently lives with a live-in caregiver and a younger male roommate who sometimes provides brief companion care for her. I am looking for a second live-in caregiver to live with my mom in her home and spell off her existing live-in caregiver. This is potentially a long-term live-in position. While my mother's care needs are relatively modest, it has become too much for one person to manage her care on an around-the-clock basis for extended periods. I have typically provided weekend and other occasional relief for her current caregiver, but my business is demanding more and more time from me, and her current caregiver is beginning to take on other work in my business as well as other activities, so we need someone to take over as her main caregiver for at least the next 6-12 months, possibly longer. My mother is usually a mild-mannered sweetheart, but she suffers from memory loss and cognitive issues that often impede her ability to understand what is going on, whether that is her being helped with dressing, bathing, eating, drinking or using the bathroom. In these situations, she sometimes requires extra care, persuasion, coaxing, assurance and assistance. She wears an ostomy and uses adult diapers for bladder control. She is not able to manage her ostomy or the adult diapers herslf and requires assistance with these as well as with brushing her teeth, bathing etc.. She needs consistent help with hydration, as she has very little thirst response and her hydration requirements are a minimum of 3 litres a day to avoid any difficulties with her digestive tract, as it was compromised when she had surgery for cancer in 2010. Her cognitive function declines noticeably if she gets less hydration. She has previously had severe impacts of under-hydration, including mild stroke and a seizure, so her hydration is a top priority in her care. She sometimes needs help eating. This varies, depending on her state of mind and her appetite. Her edicate is becoming more dhild-like as time passes, so her use of cutlery is intermittent at this point. An ideal person for this position would have non-time-sensitive work they can do from my mother's home and would be able to assist with her care when required, ranging from full-time hours coordinated with the other caregiver to around-the clock care for limited periods of time when her current caregiver and I are both away on business. Compensation to be negotiated. At a minimum, this arrangement will include all rent and utilities, use of a passenger vehicle and all reasonable meal and other costs associated with a live-in caregiver arrangement.
