Elder Care Job in Charlottesville, Virginia

We are a family seeking experienced care partners/caregivers to help in caring for our father, 67, who has Parkinson’s Disease and mild cognitive impairment. He is still extremely capable and independent in many ways, but needs support in the following areas -- medication management & care coordination, meal planning & prep, daily exercise, brain engagement, social engagement, technology assistance, home cleaning & maintenance, and occasional errands. The right individuals will be: *Kind, compassionate, and patient *Flexible and positive *Able to easily process and implement new information *Reliable *Observant and discerning *Solution-oriented and resourceful MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS -Experience in a caregiver role (in any capacity) -Strong interpersonal and communications skills -A valid driver’s license with a good driving record PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -Experience with Parkinson’s Disease and cognitive impairment -Background or interest in holistic health, nutrition, exercise, or gerontology -Competent reading nutrition labels and comparing unit pricing -Computer proficiency, including email, Google Docs, Google Sheets -Environmentally conscious KEY RESPONSIBILITIES *Meal planning, prep & health care - Ensuring a nutritionally balanced, Parkinson’s-friendly diet (we can supply this information). Meal planning, grocery shopping, batch cooking. Monitoring pill schedules, administering medication, ensuring timely prescription refills and pick ups. Making and attending doctors appointments, as needed. Communicating with family on changes in health, notes from doctors appointments, etc. *General house cleaning, home maintenance, tech help & more - *Assisting in daily exercise - Encouraging and/or accompanying on walks, bike rides, and other outdoor activities. Supervising and supporting completion of daily physical therapy exercises. *Social and brain engagement - Companionship, facilitating connection via conversation, social activities, music, reading, brain games, puzzles, art, etc. *Driving - Occasional errands, appointments, or outings. He currently still drives, but this may change with time. DAYS & HOURS Friday - Sunday 11am - 5pm Monday 11am - 2:30pm There is room to grow with this position if you are interested -- moving into full time and/or live-in.
