Elder Care in Johnstown, Pennsylvania

I worked as a Nurse's Aide in a nursing home setting for three years taking care of the elderly. I mostly worked night shifts when I was there but still was very interactive with the residents. We worked on their activities of daily living which included helping them to and from the toilet and depending on what floor I worked on I would help with bathing them, dressing them, and getting them ready for their day. I did help them with feedings when they needed a snack or needed an early breakfast for a doctor's appointment. We did mobility exercises on patients that requested them during the night shift. I took care of a wide range of resident type: some that only needed minor assistance that were more self reliant, others who needed more moderate care and those that were completely bed ridden. The ones that were unable to leave their bed I helped them to use the bed pan and would clean them up after. we also had residents that were completely unable to do anything for them selves that I would bed check multiple times a night to see if they needed their bedding changed and would clean them if they had soiled themselves. The majority of the time when I worked it was myself and one other aide in charge of taking care of about 38 residents of those various types so we were constantly busy and on our feet. I believe though that one of the most important aspects of this job besides providing outstanding care for these people was providing them with emotional and mental support. We had a lot of Dementia and Alzheimer's residents who needed that extra special care and understanding. You not only were their care giver but you also became their friend and like a family member to them. One of the most rewarding aspects of this job was being able to put a smile on my residents faces. Not every care giver is willing to go that extra mile for the resident and they only treat it as just a job but this was so much more to me. If you're looking for someone to help take care of your elderly family member or a family member that just needs some extra help getting through your day I would definitely be a great fit. I am more than willing to help out with cleaning, cooking, or anything reasonable that your love one would need.
