I think it is a priviledge to work with senior people who have lived a long life, and know they do not have time on their side. I always remain fascinated with the rich stories of their long lived life before I meet them, much of which they do not always get to share, depending on their mental capacity to do so. All my grandparents are now passed away, and I miss them all. I miss the simplicity of life when I was around them, their natural tranquility and how grateful they were to have companionship. I think I take after my paternal grandmother the most, she had a great sense of fun and very strict morals. She was a very wise and strong woman until she was not capable of being that way due to the deterioration of her mind. Yet I only ever saw her as wise, strong and brave. She is one of my heroines. I have worked in residential homes with adults and seniors with various mental and physical challenges. I was a supervisior in this home. I gave medication, helped them with their personal grooming, feeding and clothing, keeping them calm at time. Sometimes I entertained them, read to them or just tried inspiring them to engage with life a little more (or things I knew they would enjoy), amongst other various tasks depending on their needs. I have also looked after post natal mothers (my own, my sisters) and post op adults with young children.
