Elder Care in Pembroke Pines, Florida

I'm an
Individual
I am a recent Graduate with my ASN (Associate of Science in Nursing) awaiting to take my NCLEX Florida State Licensure Exam. I have extensive clinical experience in most departments of Nursing. My eldest son was born with a very rare cancer (bilateral retinoblastoma) which ultimately took his sight and also given me acute insight as to patients with special needs. I spent 3 years in and out of hospitals in varying departments while my son was undergoing treatment and that is what inspired me to re-enter college and pursue a degree in Nursing. I also had the privilege of caring for my Grandmother for 7 years in our home whom suffered Alzheimer's Disease. I love caring for others; and particularly the elderly as I consider myself a great companion and a very hands-on and experienced professional. I am a responsible, vivacious and energetic professional. I enjoy interacting with my patients/clients in simple/complex/tolerable activities or conversation. I believe it is important for them to be involved and engaged in activities that keep them sensory stimulated. I believe this increases their will to "thrive". I have a valid drivers license, full coverage automobile insurance, Level 2 background check (cleared), BLS certification and most of all, My Nursing Degree. I am willing to do anything my patient/client requires which would include but not limit to: housework, cooking, shopping, driving to appointments, hygiene and general care, activities, laundry, etc.. I will keep you updated with daily progress reports and be willing to take on additional responsibility if needed. You name it, I'll take care of it!! I am available to begin working immediately.

Lori Simmer assisted regularly with the ongoing care needed for her Grandmother whom suffered Alzheimers Disease. Hazel was in her mid 80's when we began to see the cogntive decline and due to her inability to properly care for herself, it subsequently necessitated moving her here to South Florida to live with us. My husband and I were traveling frequently, so Lori stepped in and cared for her Grandmother for days to weeks at a time. Her responsibilities included every aspect of Hazels activities of daily living. She got her up in the morning, managed her daily hygiene, prepared her meals and insured she maintained proper nutrition. She oversaw her medical management which included taking her prescription medications, vitamins, etc. She drove her to the doctor when needed and kept her engaged in activites that kept her mind stimulated and her body "active". She continued to encourage her independence until the disease took its toll and she could no longer eat on her own or remain continent of her bladder/bowels. Lori then fed Hazel her meals, changed her "diapers" and bathed her regularly. This care went on for another 18 months until the disease progression finally resulted in our decision to call upon Hospice. Whether Hazel was her Grandmother or a complete stranger, I believe Lori would have delivered the same standard of care and would enjoy every moment. Lori is very responsible and passionate about what she does and I beleive Lori would be an asset to any family needing care and companionship for their loved one.
