Elder Care in Calgary, Alberta

Dear Families, My name is Lou and I wish to introduce myself to you as a potential candidate for your loved one\'s caregiver. I am a long time Calgarian, originally from New Brunswick. I am a very family-oriented person with three grown children of my own and four lovely grandchildren. Professionally, I was employed as a para-legal for over 20 years in various law offices in Calgary and surrounding areas. In the last ten years, I have devoted my time primarily to helping to raise and care for my grandchildren, and this allowed their parents to pursue and develop their early careers. I am an active and physically fit individual who loves to hike and pursue outdoor activities with my friends and family. For the past 5 years, I have enjoyed helping young girls develop their skills a Girl Guide troupe leader in the High River and Airdrie areas. I also spent time volunteering as an office assistant in our local Roman Catholic church. Recently, I have been providing housesitting, petsitting and gardening/landscaping services to families in the Calgary and Springbank areas. With respect to my experience in senior care, I have personal experience in this through caring for my own mother who suffers from dementia and also has had an ileostomy for many years. I understand the patience and adherence to routine that is so important in this elderly population. I believe I possess the compassion and skills required to serve as a companion and caregiver to seniors competently. I have worked with seniors in the past. Care needs I have experience providing include all areas of personal care such as bathing, toileting, and dressing. I also have experience with dementia, as my own mother suffers from this affliction. I understand the need for patience and routine in older individuals and feel that I can offer companionship for seniors and contribute to their quality of life.
