Elder Care in Chicago, Illinois

My name is Betsy and I am 51 years old. I've worked in many nursing homes from the time I was 16. I absolutely love interacting with the elderly. If I wanted a full-time job it would be as an Activities Director in a nursing facility. However, I am for the most part just interested in in home care giver jobs and wondered if there were people whose loved ones were not yet needing to reside in a full-service full-time care facility and would relish the idea of someone they could trust caring for their loved one's needs maybe 5 days a week in their own home. In my past jobs i have always felt like the son or daughter that couldn’t give the care necessary to their parent. My husband and I (and our four daughters) lived with my 83 year old father for 4 years before he passed, so I feel somewhat educated through life experience on some of the difficult issues that accompany dementia. The bottom line is that I am energized by being with the very people that are often considered insignificant and can seem forgotten. I find satisfaction in pouring into their lives and making them see their lives are not over and that they still matter. I enjoy simply sitting with them and hearing their stories and taking them on walks. I would be willing to do some light cleaning, cooking, or grocery shopping for them. Duties may include taking them to Dr. Appointments, helping them get dressed, and reading to them. I also have showered clients and assisted with toileting needs. I have many references as needed.
