My focus is to enhance quality of life and personal empowerment through caring, compassionate and respectful assistance in daily activities and home care. My background education including clinical anatomy and physiology, and my professional experience in infectious and chronic disease centers complements my experience as a health care worker with a personal commitment to providing the best health care support possible. I have extensive personal and professional experience with home-bound and disabled adults of varying ages (30’s to mid-90’s), who require assistance with everyday living. I understand the importance of support workers as facilitators enabling others to live with dignity and independence, and providing a connection to their community. I am sensitive to the need for trustworthiness, discretion and respect for privacy in this occupation. With 5 years of experience as a home health care worker for individuals with severe physical challenges (quadriplegics and paraplegics) and with seniors, I am well able to handle physically and emotionally demanding work conditions requiring excellent troubleshooting and critical thinking skills. I have worked in a range of home settings with a variety of mobility devices used to lift and transport. I am able to stand, crouch/bend and kneel for extended periods of time, and have experience in all aspects of personal care, including transfers, dressing, showering, personal grooming, physiotherapy and exercise, massage, bowel elimination, medication, feeding, wheelchair assistance,and as a travel companion.
