Elder Care in Toronto, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
I have recently graduated from the PSW Certification program at TDSB City Adult Learning Center (CALC). During my time at CALC I received a thorough and well-rounded education. I excelled in the school environment, maintained high grades and displayed leadership skills. During practicum I was able to put into use a lot of what I had learned during the theory portion of school. I did my practicum at Leaisureworld Ellesmere where I learned to be a productive team player, use effective time management skills, use state of the art POC System and apply DIPPS to all ADLs and interactions with residents and staff. I did my community in a group home setting at Alexis Lodge where I demonstrated my ability to work as a team to provide care, comfort and activation to the residents. I believe that my training and previous work experience make me a unique and viable member of any institution/person looking for quality PSWs. I have previous experience as a Caregiver (uncertified PSW). I worked in a private home for almost 5 years for an elderly lady with advanced Muscular Dystrophy (quadriplegic, tracheostomy/ventilation machine, breast cancer). I started as part time and eventually worked full time. Due to the clients condition my duties where extensive and varied. Some of them included: complete assist with ADLs, household management, training staff, ROM exercise, accompany during surgeries and doctor appts., maintaining/training/cleaning of life sustaining equipment (mechanical ventilation system, Hoyer lift system), and eventually palliative care. I have also been an Infant/child Caregiver for over 10 yrs. Through my many years helping families raise their children I have learned numerous skills that I know will aid me in working as PSW. Respect, patience, time management and autonomy at any age are just a few skills that I bring to my PSW work. During my late teens and early twenties I volunteered at NYGH. I did my placement in Emergency/Pediatric wards. I learned so much from my work there and felt very comfortable in the hospital environment. I hope to be able to bring my life long experiences in the outskirts of the medical field to become a viable member of any multidisciplinary team. My passion is to provide excellent care to anyone who is in need of it. Personally, I am an upbeat happy person who loves to take care of people. I am responsible, respectful, nurturing, honest, open and gentle person. I perform well in high stress situations, have common sense, exhibit critical thinking, can work independently or as a team member, am flexible, can follow instructions and adhere to the scope of practice set out for my profession. I believe deeply in Respect, dignity, autonomy and quality of life for all people regardless of age, race, physicality, disability or mental state. I am an ambassador for any who cannot speak up or care for themselves. • Certified PSW (2015) • Standard First Aid/HCP CPR (ex.2017) • N-95 Mask Fit • WHIMIS • Toronto Public Health Food Handler Certificate (ex.2019) • U-First Certificate • Intro. To Hospice Palliative Care Certificate • Police Reference Check: Clear (est. 26/06.14) • Volunteer at NYGH: Emergency x2 and Pediatrics.
