Caregiving, my second career, consumes my heart and soul because of the sick and the vulnerable, who depend on you to survive or to pass gracefully from this world. I took 3 semesters of pre-nursing at LaGuardia Community College/CUNY to get a grounding on health care. I also have a two-year experience as a patient advocate and navigator, which provided me with knowledge and best practices of proper and excellent patient care. Since I started this second career in 2009, I have accumulated significant knowledge and skills in patient care such as BP, glucose, and weight monitoring, use of wheelchair, hoyer lift, and walker, illness-based nutrition and menu planning, application of the bi-pap machine or oxygen concentrator for emphysema patients, and bed mobility of patients during change of gowns or bed linens.
