Elder Care in Regina, Saskatchewan

I worked at a retirement community (Broadway Terrace) for two and a half years where I was the First Cook/Baker. My responsibilities entailed making a nutritious salad and dessert every day for dinner service, as well as assisting the head cook with the rest of the meal. I assisted the residents by manning the buffet station every night, chatting with them, answering questions, and helping get food on the plates, as well as helping them to their table if necessary. We dealt with all sorts of special diets including diabetic, purees and special allergies. Broadway Terrace was an Eden Care community and as such, we were encouraged (and loved to!) chat with the residents and even allow them to help with the preparation of dinner, if that's what they wished! Once I had my own workforce of ladies helping me make dinner buns from scratch for the first time (at their request!), it was so much fun! I had a total blast working there; I was completely enlightened by how fun elderly people are to interact with! If it weren't for a wage-cut off (meaning no more raises), I absolutely would have stayed.
