My experience includes ten years of experience working with adults with acquired brain injury (symptoms similar to dementia) and work this past year with a female client with advancing dementia. I also have 10 years working in both residential care and day program care with older adults with developmental and physical challenges and/or behavioural issues. I am also experienced in performing personal care (including medication administration), and domestic care (light housekeeping, laundry, cooking, etc.) within the home. I hold current First Aid / CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates and Criminal and Adult Abuse Registry checks. Spending time with the elderly began with my grandparents, especially my grandmother, who was somewhat compromised medically. My father (her son) preferred that someone spend time with her after my grandfather passed away, and as the oldest grandchild, that responsibility fell to me. It was enjoyable being her companion - watching TV, discussing the news, taking walks around the block, gardening, paying bills, going shopping, playing cards, going to weekly bingo and penny sales. Her much younger sister-in-law fell ill with Huntington's disease while in her forties, and required constant care as she slid into dementia as a result of that illness. I am an older employee who is reliable, punctual and can be trusted to care for your loved one.
