Recommendations

It gives me pleasure to recommend Carmelite Choonoo to any future employer. Carma has skills, work ethic and people skills that are desirable in many fields of employment. Carma worked for my mother as a certified nurse’s assistant from March of 2016 until my mother’s passing in July of 2017. Her original shift was for three nights a week. But my mother loved Carma from the beginning and somehow manipulated Carma to work for her every night: that is seven nights a week! This was because Carma, in addition to all of her job requirements (managing meds, feedings, blood pressures, bathing, etc.) gave my mom companionship and made her laugh. Carma went the extra mile for my failing mother. Carma took my mom out to eat on her own time; Valentines Day was a special occasion. As time went on Carma brought her three year old to visit my mom , on Sundays before Carma’s shift started. This was a huge gift to my mom. She “lived” for those visits. Carma was a total team player, often arriving early to her shift to give the day aide a break or staying extra in the morning to help with washing and dressing my mom. Time and time again I argued with Carma to put those extra hours on her time sheet; it was a war that I never won. Carma created relationships of loyalty between herself and the day people.. The more typical behavior between aides is to just pass each other at shift change. Carma never missed a day until I forced her to take the occasion paid night off. As my mother did not do well with change, Carma, out of concern for my mother, asked the day aides to cover for her on those rare nights off, so that she would not be cared for by a stranger on those occasions. The day aides accommodated Carma and my mom because of the bonds that Carma had formed with them. Working for my mother was no easy task. My mom had Parkinson’s and dementia but even with diminished ability to speak my mom was demanding, and projected her anger and depression about her own situation onto her aides. Her cocktail of meds caused psychotic episodes and dyskinesia, making my mom an outcast in her community. Carma loved her throughout. As my mom lost ambulatory skills everyone’s job doubled and then tripled. Carma continued to love my mom with patience. I truly think that Carmelite Choonoo is a gift. It is the lucky employer that hires her. Please don’t hesitate to call me with further questions
