Elder Care in Spruce Grove, Alberta

I am originally from the East Coast. I'm semi retired but am interested in providing personal care, companionship, and support to individual (s) who require day to day assistance in order to remain in their own home. If required I have an extensive background working with individuals with dementia and Alzheimer's , both on a professional and personal level. My interest in the helping profession began at a young age....While still in my teens, I helped my grandmother look after my grandfather who was in late stages of Alzheimer's. From this experience I knew it was an area I would pursue in life. I enjoy being around seniors and listening to them reminisce. I enjoy learning of their interests and using that to help them enjoy each day to the best of their ability. I have found music, coloring, and other methods of therapy to be very helpful in calming and occupying individuals depending on the interest and stages of illness. During my employment I also helped provide in home support and care to my mother who was diagnosed with early stages of Alzheimer's eight years ago. As with many individuals who have Alzheimer's her personality changed as the disease progressed which created a lot of anxiety and challenges for my dad. I helped look for ways to support my dad while exercising patients, and compassion for both in a situation filled with daily challenges. I am able to do light housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal planning and preparation, accompany individual to appointment as well as do day to day grooming and personal care. I'm very easy going, with a great sense of humor and positive outlook on life. I have a professional resume that I can provide upon request.
