Elder Care in Toronto, Ontario

I'm an
Individual
To Whom it may concern; Presently, as shared, I am the private home Care-Giver for a lovely Senior (85 years) in The Kingsway GTA, who has had several mini strokes, a degenerative neurological condition, and progressive dementia. As a result, she has partial paralysis and difficulty with physical movement. She requires assistance to perform the necessities of life, although her mental capacity is often intact. Below is a letter that was written about me from one family having been the Care-Giver of their children: \"Derra was our nanny for a year and a half. With my son going into grade 2 and my daughter, starting school in September, we no longer have a need for full days of a Nanny. About Derra...she is not your typical nanny, and that is why we loved her. She was 100% about the kids, and we knew that she would give her life for them. She was VERY protective of our kids, always watching and aware of her surroundings (at the park, etc), which was peace of mind for us! Derra is all about art, crafts, music, play, everything kids!  She has great communication skills, so we always knew what was happening as the day went on. Any issues were always brought to light and dealt with right away (for example, if my son was not sharing with his sister). Her arts/acting background really comes into light and the kids took a shining to her. Derra always interacted with the kids, actively playing with them (even if it was Barbie or Lego or a good board game). If you do go with Derra, be sure to keep lots of art supplies around, she is VERY creative!!  She is a very talented artist. Derra is VERY punctual (never late EVER, even in the worst of snow storms!!). She is very easy going.and at the end of the day, she leaves your house the exact way you left it. She tidies up after herself and the kids.\" Thank you again, and I am not available at this time. Sincerely, Derra St. Denis To Whom it may concern; Thank you for reading my profile, and introductory letter. Seniors relate very well to me, as I am a kind, responsible, efficient, and a reliable Care-Giver. The 85 year old woman I care-give for at present, requires assistance to walk, and perform the necessities of life. She has had several mini strokes, a degenerative neurological condition affecting her speech, and progressive dementia. I enjoy being part of her life, and witness to her determination to carry on despite her conditions. She also has partial paralysis, and difficulty with physical movement, and although she requires assistance, her mental capacity is often intact. In conjunction with the manual provided by her physical therapist, we follow it and improvise on exercises every day, practice walking with her walker, and speaking. Support, and tender loving care meeting her daily needs, to me, are the ingredients to a successful relationship in Senior Care-Giving. Currently, I am with her 5 evenings per week, 3-11pm, and work in the beautiful Kingsway area. Incidentally, she also has other personal support workers in the morning 9-11am, and 1-2pm on a rotational basis. This lady enjoys the rotation and different people she meets daily, which gives her a great sense of social interaction, although a few of us are consistent staples in her schedule. I am not available for another contract at this time, however, thought to write this letter to let other families know what they can expect in caring for their mothers, fathers or loved ones. My other experience includes private Care-Giving contracts for children full-time from 2008-201..., past -volunteer teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) through the Metropolitan Separate School Board in Toronto, an Honors B.A. from York University (Economics Major and French Minor), my lifeguard training (Bronze Medallion), and Smart Serve food safe certification, and First Aid and emergency training (having been a flight attendant for 2 world class airlines). Also, I tutored beginner piano to 2 children in the Beach, and I am an on-going classical piano student, grades 6-8 conservatory level. I speak conversational French and maintain it through a social I was referred by the Francophone Society of Ontario. I have access to public transit, drive and own a Jeep vehicle. My resume and references will be provided at our scheduled interview/meet & greet. My hourly rate is currently $20 (no deductions) and I work as an independent, self-employed contractor providing you receipts (my accountant handles my deductions each year through my company HomeCare International Ltd. My rate is less than Spectrum, CCAC or other private agencies. Thank you again for your time, and best of luck finding a Care-Giver that meets your loved ones needs. Sincerely, Derra St. Denis Other Bio - FB, Twitter, and LinkedIn
