Elder Care in Ottawa, Ontario

Please contact me I have experience as a volunteer at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre with the Geriatric patients . My duties were a friendly visitor and a meal helper. Basically I would sit with patients and chat with them, watch tv, play a game or go for a walk down the hall. In the dining room I would help patients to their seats and bring the food tray to them, grabbing any beverages they liked and also ensured they were monitored at all times. I would collect all the trays and dispose of any garbage, clean tables and put away the beverages, etc. My grandpa struggled with dementia for 5 years so with my experience with him has made me aware of how much care a dementia patient needs. He had to be watched 24/7 in the last 2 years of his life so he was in a nursing home but prior to this he was living at home with my grandma where I would visit him. When my grandma would leave for a couple hours or overnight sometimes, I would give him his medication, make sure he stays inside and is comfortable, have conversation about various things, etc
