Elder Care in Truro, Nova Scotia

I'm an
Individual
To whom it may concern, Hello! My name is Mérédith Hébert, please allow me to tell you a bit about myself. I love working with people of all ages and have always found it easy to connect with others and to serve as a confidant for people in my life. And ever since I can remember, I have always loved and enjoyed working with elderly people. I like listening to the stories that have defined their lives, and I like being able to support them and help them in getting through difficult moments, both physically and mentally. I always strive to help them as best I can. I’ve been told that I bring them a little ray of sunshine in their day — some warmth and hope. My grandfather, who was severely disabled following a road accident, has had a profound impact on my life. His presence in my life and my close relationship with him has given me a personal understanding of how a person’s disability affects not only their life, but the lives of their families. It is yet another reason why I believe I have a calling to work with elderly individuals and make their lives a little bit brighter. I completed my Social Sciences Bachelor's degree in December 2018. Before my studies at university, I obtained my “Technique” in social work with a specialty in gerontology in 2015 at College La Cité. I worked as a UCP (unregulated care provider), in an privately-run retirement home for seniors. I administered mediation, promoted their well-being, served as their companion and confidant, and for some, I was the granddaughter they never had. For a little over a year now, I’ve been working at the Eastern Ottawa Resources Center, as a community support worker. I mainly work with clients who live with Dementia and their caregivers. I am currently working on a new project for clients who live with Young Onset Dementia. The Alzheimer’s Society is getting more and more demands from people living with Young Onset Dementia and unfortunately, we have minimum resources for them. My team and I are developing a community group for them to socialize, do activities and share their experiences. I consider myself lucky to be able to make a difference (small or big) in the lives of the people I am honoured to work with and help. Thanks to them, their wisdom, and the experience I have gained by their side, I am ready to take on new challenges and continue a career in the service of others. It would be my great pleasure to be able to meet you and to provide references upon request. Best regards,
