Elder Care Job in Clio, Alabama
I'm an
Individual
I have been diagnosed, with Multiple Sclerosis, since 1997. Through the years, I have been needing more and more help with caring for myself and light cleaning/cooking. I live alone. Fatigue is one of the main symptoms of MS. Any bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing (back and forth) or reaching aggravates symptoms. Normal everyday activities can bring on MS attacks/episodes.
Some days, I need help taking a shower. It is very difficult cooking "regular" meals. Most of the time, I end up eating store bought and processed foods. I am Diabetic, as well, and it's very difficult keeping my blood sugar down. There is no grocery store, in my town, public transportation or taxi service. Actually, for the most part, there are very few sidewalks. I have a power wheelchair, but can not go to a local dollar store; which is less than a quarter mile, from me, because of the lack of sidewalks. It's against the law to ride, on the roadway. Any form of transportation is extremely limited to me. It's expensive to pay someone to take me to medical appointments. Wherever I have to go is between 52 to 200 miles (round trip). Due to that, I have narrowed my grocery shopping to once a month. I am sure you can guess that is tiring.
I have carpet and tile floors, in my apartment. Rarely, are they vacuumed or cleaned. A steam cleaner, for floors, that I have is very good - but being heavy for me - it is a struggle to push it back and forth (as well as the vacuum cleaner). Quite often, by the time I try to either vacuum or sweep the tile floor before steaming it - I have to stop, because I have become too exhausted.
Standing, without leaning on something is one of my other problems. I can stand on my own "comfortably," for under five minutes. My legs are very weak. Washing dishes, can be a challenge. It is the same problem, with preparing and cooking food. Also, I have to be careful with heat. Heat can cause a MS attack. It can be brought on by exercise, hot water, hot temperature or weather.
Other duties (like washing, drying and putting away clothes) are difficult, for me. By the time I have sorted, washed and dried the clothes, it is the same story. I'm exhausted to the point where I feel (sometimes) like passing out.
