Elder Care in Halifax, Nova Scotia

I'm an
Individual
My Philosophy I feel that all children need to be treated fairly and included equally; they must be allowed to grow as individuals through self-initiated cognitive learning. We must allow children to make mistakes and learn from natural consequences. I believe in letting children make a mess, in making it with them, and cleaning up together, allowing them to explore their world on their own terms, because as Jean Piaget stated, learning is an active process. Families ought to be encouraged to get involved in a learning centre, as well, educators ought to meet and exceed the needs of the families in a positive, encouraging manner. Every child deserves a safe, developmentally appropriate program to be supported, and grow. I take every opportunity given to me to use the skills I learned at NSCC and professional development courses offered to Early Childhood Educators in HRM and Cumberland County. Experience Toddler Teacher ▪ June 2011 - current Come To Me Daycare and Preschool ▪ 5900 Inglis St, HRM Am currently responsible for a class of six toddlers, aged 2-3, I plan developmentally appropriate activities for them as well as allowing them to explore in their own ways. I ensure I always use positive child guidance and am on the child’s level. I have good relationships with the children I interact with as well as the parents. I do many head counts, make sure children are signed in when they enter the centre, and that the children are taken to the potty as needed. I am responsible for the care and wellbeing of these children during the day. I was responsible for doing all closing duties of the centre for a month or two, which included taking out garbage, locking doors, etc. I also share other duties such as dishes, laundry, cleaning, with the other teachers. Preschool Teacher ▪ February 2011 – June 2011 Melody Miracles ▪ Bedford, HRM I worked with a group of preschoolers in home in Bedford. I practiced positive child guidance with them as well as using developmentally appropriate planning for the program. I was responsible for getting the children lunch, cleaning potty seats and other cleaning duties. Toddler Staff ▪ September 2009 – March 2010 Mount Pleasant Nursery School ▪ Truro, Ns I worked in the toddler room, 18 toddlers between 3 teachers. Organized field trips, split planning fairly and learned to work through co-worker issues in a positive manner. I used positive child guidance with the children.
