Elder Care in Mission, British Columbia

My background has been in the administrative field and as I\'ve gotten older I feel I need to give back and my dream jobs are to look after seniors/animals. I was raised by my grandparents who are 89 and 91 and still live in their own home. They have taught me so much along with my older aunts and uncles (I was the oldest of the 3rd generation and then a large gap until my younger cousins started to appear) and I was used to being around a crowd that was alot older. My grandma says that I was born old and related better to seniors and animals then any other ages including my own. My grandparents live in Sask and I only get to see them once a year, used to be twice a year but as they are getting older it\'s too much for them to travel here anymore. My love of nature (animals) comes from my Grandpa and cooking, nature (gardening) and finance comes from my Grandma. I wish I could be there everyday for them but since I cannot I would like to help other seniors. I am lucky to have younger cousins that can look in on them and stay with them on weekends to help them out and I would like to do the same here. I enjoy talking about books and getting to know a senior, finding out about their life and their history because without making the effort of hearing their stories they would be lost forever and that is truly a tragedy. I hope that I can contribute something back to a senior that needs a companion to help around the house, make sure they eat and take any meds in the same way that I cannot do for my own grandparents who just celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. To do just a little something to make their lives just a little happier would be a pleasure and an honour. My grandparents raised me and are now in their early 90s, my grandmother had a stroke 4 years ago and has some slight mobility problems as well as some memory loss. I have been going home to take care of them every year but since they live in sask its hard not to be able to go back for longer. I am very willing to take any courses that would make a family more comfortable in hiring me. I have alot to give and would love to be able to provide companionship to a senior to not only enrich their lives but as well as my own.
