Elder Care in Winnipeg, Manitoba
I'm an
Individual
To the prospective employer:
I am currently employed with the WHRA as a Permanent 0.75 EFT Home Care Attendant in the River Heights Area. However, my desire is to provide personalized quality care to clients within the private sector, including Self-Managers & Family Managers.
The primary emphasis of my current and past work is to provide quality health care to individuals of all ages with Mental and/or Physical disabilities. That is my designated area of expertise. I am a certified Health Care Aide (Robertson College, Dec. 2009, With Honours). I am also a graduate of the School of Massage Therapy, and have provided services as a massage therapist over the years. Additional support services that I have provided in the community to challenged individuals who struggle with mental health issues are recreational, aquatic & musical therapies.
Throughout my employment in the health care field, I have provided support & education to mentally & physically challenged individuals, in their homes and in the community at large, while always maintaining a high level of confidentiality. I have demonstrated an exceptional ability to work well either in a team setting or on an individual basis, and I have excellent references.
In addition to my health care aid work, I have also provided respite for families with mentally and physically challenged youth, adults & seniors, having worked with Manitoba Housing & Family Services. In that area of employment, I provided these services, as follows: transportation to & from recreational centers, such as swimming pools, doctor appointments, restaurants, movie theaters, beaches, churches & other community events & recreational venues. During my employment as Health Care Aide with ILRC, I worked closely with medical staff including nurses, physiotherapists & doctors, within a team setting, maintaining the utmost concern for patient safety and wellness.
During my employment as a Community Support Worker with CMHC I had the privilege of participating in the following responsibilities: ongoing Assessments of psychiatric history, mental status & diagnoses, physical health & dental health, use of drugs or alcohol, education & employment, social development & functioning, activities of daily living, family structure & relationships, spirituality, mental health issues, symptoms & responses to treatments, activities of daily living, recovery, planning structures, prompting social & leisure time activities, etc. I have also participated in regular staff organizational meetings, recovery planning meetings & recovery plan review meetings.
As a Health Care Aide in various past employment, including in a seniors group home, I also participated in & organized the following events/activities: group meetings, health & nutrition workshops tailored to individual clinical needs, exercise programs for individuals & groups (e.g. taking clients to the YMCA), thereby promoting personal growth & development with the goal of enabling patients to cope better with internal & external stresses. In my past (& current) employment as a health care aide, I also assisted with very specific medical procedures & personal hygiene & grooming tasks, such as: maintaining catheter care for males & females, perineal care, disempaction, bathing, all toilet needs, exercise routines as directed by medical staff, stretches, pivot transfers, hoyer lifts, assistance in ambulation with use of walkers &/or wheelchairs. Furthermore, in my previous work, I provided automobile transportation to and from various appointments or social engagements. I also administered medications & kept Accurate Written Records and assisted with high standard food preparation & feeding, therapeutic massage as directed by physiotherapists & occupational therapists, handling finances, grocery shopping, all household & sanitation duties e.g. laundry, washing floors, toilets, bathtubs, vacuuming etc. In cases of self-management home care, I also maintained excellent communication with all concerned family members regarding client care in a professional & appropriate manner, always acknowledging work-related boundaries (Phia). My exemplary references (including Ms. Terri MacIntosh, Independent Living Consultant for ILRC) attest to the quality of care I have provided to all my clients/patients throughout my many years in the health care field.
All my police records & child abuse & vulnerable people checks are clean & current. In addition, I have certification in the following courses: ASSIST course, Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI), Security Guard & Safe Food Handling. Furthermore, I have an excellent Class 5 driver’s record, a safe vehicle and a valid driver’s license. Until recently, I had a class 4 License in order to transport groups of people, which I do not need to maintain in the current position I am in, but which I can easily re-instate. I am able to travel between assignments & I can easily adapt to changes in schedules on short notice. I am very familiar with the city of Winnipeg and am currently living in South St. Vital.
I would very much appreciate it if you would please call or email me to arrange an interview so I can discuss my qualifications further with you. I will provide references upon request or during the interview. Please note that my health care work has always been focused on providing quality care with understanding & compassion.
Thank you for considering my application for the position of Senior Care provider for your family or other related positions. I look forward to meeting you in person.
Sincerely,
Grant
