Elder Care Job in Spruce Grove, Alberta

The clients: The clients are an elderly couple. The couple resides in a lovely home in the country west of Edmonton within 15 to 20 minutes drive of the City of Edmonton or Devon. He is 87 and still enjoys a moderately active lifestyle. He may require some assistance putting on outerwear at times due to a bad shoulder, but is still largely independent. She is 81 and has dementia. Her condition continues to decline. She has had some additional health concerns and needs that require monitoring in conjunction with health care providers. She is somewhat mobile, though slow, and requires assistance with all personal needs tasks. Medications are administered several times daily. She cannot be left unattended.. All in home care is supported by family members. There are three daughters, one who resides nearby, who provide assistance, guidance, and supervise scheduling, medical appointments and needs, payroll and other matters as needed. Job Requirements: The position would be evolving as needs change, but we require both day and night-time support. You would be part of a team of caring individuals including family members. We have several excellent people currently employed for day time shifts and alternating night/weekend shifts. Our current schedule runs for four week spans. We are currently seeking someone to fill some overnight (generally 3:30pm to 9:00 am) and weekend shifts. Weekend shifts run from 6:00pm Friday to 5:00pm Sunday on alternate weekends. Schedule needs fluctuate and can be altered as necessary. Some or all of the following tasks would be required: Companionship Housekeeping Cooking Shopping and errands if needed Driving (if needed) Attending medical appointments Administering medications Assistance in bathing/ personal needs and dressing Emergency response if necessary Keeping the family and other caregivers up to date with changing needs, concerns or other issues. (Charting and email reporting) The successful applicant should have the following skills and character: Compassionate Patient Honest Energetic Be Positive and cheerful Love the Outdoors Be okay with animals (1 dog in residence) Have or be eligible to take basic CPR training Have either training or experience with dementia patients Have a valid drivers license Speak fluent English (Italian is also an asset!) Be able to provide character and employment references. Be able to spend time alone comfortably The job will not include: personal transportation PLEASE NOTE: We are not able to sponsor live-in-caregiver program. Care in home for elderly couple. She has advanced dementia. All personal care required as well as administering of medications. Night and weekend shifts required.
