Elder Care in Victoria, British Columbia

Hello, My name is Jonathan and I am a second year student at Camosun College. I am currently studying a Pre-Social Work program where I hope to continue my studies at a Canadian University to finish a Bachelor of Social Work. I have always had a natural curiosity and drive to help those that are in need in my community. My mother has worked as a Personal Support Worker with a focus on elderly care since I was in the womb. She has shown me how rewarding it is to make a difference in someone\'s life by the hard work she has done in her field. I volunteered a lot of my time at the retirement home she worked at, working closely with a woman with Alzheimer\'s Disease, caring for her pets and building a companionship with her. Since moving to the west coast from Toronto, I have volunteered countless hours at various homeless shelters from Vancouver\'s Downtown East-Side to Victoria\'s Rock Bay facility. Every where I go, I make it a priority to give back to my community in any way that I can. I have a proven ability to relate to people of all ages, especially kids with my sense of play. My mother has influence me to become the caring individual that I am today and is to thank for me having a sincere devotion towards helping others. I plan to continue down a path of compassion and love for one-another by continuing in a field that allows me to fulfill my dreams by lending a hand to any individual I encounter. I have experience working closely with both an elderly woman and man with Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. My duties revolved around cooking, creating stimulating activities such as folding laundry together or painting and overall companionship. I also participated in light house duties when necessary.
