Elder Care Job in Bobcaygeon, Ontario

We are looking for an experienced, caring and compassionate, full-time, live in Caregiver/Companion to assist with our 89-year-old mother in her home in Bobcaygeon, Ontario. Our Mom has recently been diagnosed with Dementia and while she is in generally good physical condition, has full mobility and can manage her own personal care (bathing bathing/showering, dressing and personal hygiene), she is no longer able to live alone. She is also no longer able to drive which has always been a big part of her independence. As a family, we want to keep her safe, happy and comfortable in her own home with a dedicated Caregiver/Companion who can assist us in maintaining a good quality of life for our Mom. Our Mom is a friendly and active lady who enjoys tending to her gardens, keeping her home neat and organized, likes decorating her home seasonally, music and spending time with her large family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The ideal candidate will be able to provide her with the care, supervision, interaction and dignity she deserves in a friendly, congenial and respectful manner. Duties will include being able to take her shopping and out for errands (general shopping/groceries), assist in the preparation of meals, perform light housekeeping, laundry and socialize with her throughout the day. Assistance with keeping track of medication refills from pharmacy (family will order medication), help organize medications in daily pill box organizer, ensure medication is taken twice daily (breakfast and dinner) and be able to clearly communicate with family members regarding our Mom’s activities, progress, and/or concerns is essential. The ability to drive locally for shopping and appointments is required. The position includes a private bedroom and bathroom, use of all common areas and laundry, Wi-Fi/Satellite television. Previous experience working with and caring for seniors is mandatory. CAREGiver training certificate and/or a Personal Support Worker Certificate or NACC certificate, if you graduated from a private college would be an asset, but is not mandatory. This could be a great opportunity for the right individual who appreciates living in a beautiful home and providing caring companionship. We would anticipate a few trial days together to ensure a good fit for both parties and would negotiate a formal contract together including vacation time and benefits. We anticipate that hours for this position would be from 9:00am on Monday to 5:00pm on Friday, with weekends off as the family will be covering from Friday at 5:00pm to Monday at 9:00am.
