Elder Care Job in Innisfil, Ontario

I hope you are having a good day. i am excited to tell you about a unique opportunity to provide elder care in a rural community. My mom is in her late 80's and still quite independent. She is a charming lady with a fun sense of humor. A retired teacher, she is smart and enjoys playing word games and reading her bible She adores her baby grandson and enjoys looking after him with assistance. (He goes to daycare full time). She has the usual aches and pains that you would expect in one her age but also suffers from low blood pressure which makes her a fall risk. She needs help standing and sitting and must be reminded to use her walker. Mom is living with significant problems with her memory having been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. We are looking for a companion who can be responsible for Medication Administration (mostly from blister packages), supervising rehab exercises, helping with self care and hygiene, minor housekeeping, meal preparation and other elder care services. Medical training is considered a huge asset. If you don't have CPR, you must be willing to take it--we will provide it. We prefer some training in personal support or health care and experience with eldercare is mandatory. You must be kind, respectful and patient and able to treat mom as a Queen. Ability to speak Jamaican Patois would be a major asset as would be the ability to prepare Jamaican food such as Ackee and saltfish, oxtail stew, red peas stew, cornmeal porridge, picked lobster, etc. Mom has significant challenges with her appetite ad getting her to eat is quite a struggle. Her short term memory is poor so she enjoys talking about Jamaica and its culture, the old jokes, songs, ring games and idiomatic expressions . We also hope you can assist her to use social media like Facebook and Whatsapp to keep in touch with friends and family. We prefer someone who can drive or who is willing to learn to drive as there is no public transportation convenient to our location (Innisfil). We prefer a live-in arrangement in which case a vehicle will be provided for your use. We are also willing to teach the right candidate how to drive. Sponsorship may be available for the right person who is already in Canada. The right candidate will have a respected role in our household.
