Elder Care Job in Oro Valley, Arizona

Looking to interview Lenny G. My name is Rachel Jeffer, and I live in Los Angeles, California. My elderly parents live in Oro Valley/Tucson. I am trying to find a part-time companion (approximately 10 hours a week) for my Dad. He is 89 years old, is legally blind, profoundly hard of hearing (wears hearing aids) and is mostly confined to a chair or wheelchair because of muscular dystrophy. He gets around with a walker for short distances. My concern about him is that he is very isolated, lonely and unmotivated. He lives with my step-mom, but she has her own problems and cannot engage him adequately enough. He's exceptionally intelligent, and when he had his hearing, sight and mobility, he was an architect, an avid reader, a world traveler, did challenging jigsaw puzzles, was active in clubs, volunteered etc. I believe that he would benefit tremendously from having someone spend time with him 2-3 times a week for a few hours and engage him in conversation and activities. This might include a trip to the local Sun City club or library. I have a few ideas about things that could make a huge difference, including documenting life stories. A number of things in your profile appealed to me, including the fact that you're a writer/journalist. The job would require being able to transfer him from a wheelchair to a car and driving to the local center. It would also require some patience because of the difficulty of communicating with someone who can't hear well.
