March 16, 2016 Dear Hiring Manager, My name is Thilma B. Paglinawan. I am 45 years of age taking up the course Associates in Computer Technology in Visayas State University, Isabel, Leyte. I am also taking a Caregiver course in Tesda School named UHA CAREGIVER TRAINING CORPORATION which took 7 months of training and specializes for the Elderly, Childcare, Pet Care, Meal Preparation, Home Management, CPR, First Aid, Nutrition and Care for the sick etc. I am not a native of Leyte but my real place was in Claver, Surigao del Norte. My Elementary Background: I studied my Elementary days in our place in Claver Central Elementary School. Grade I – 10th honor Grade II – 5th honor Grade III – 2nd honor Grade IV – 2nd honor Grade V – 3rd honor Grade VI – 8th honor and most industrious, most helpful is only my award and getting my diploma after I graduated in elementary year 1983. My extra Curricular in elementary: Singing and dancing My High School Background: First year-2nd honor 2nd year- 4th honor 3rd year-6th honor 4thyear-9th honor and graduated in the year 1987 My extra Curricular in High School: Singing, dancing and playing guitar My College Days: I studied in San Nicolas College in Surigao City, now known as St. Paul University run by the Sisters of St. Paul (SPC). I am taking up the course Bachelor of Arts (AB) and taking up English major but I was not able to finish the course since I stopped my studies due to my desire of entering the convent for sisterhood. It took for me 1 semester only in that school. Year 1989: I enter the convent for sisterhood thinking that God is calling me to that kind of life. Inside the convent I enjoyed much in dealing with the sisters helping each other in doing the apostolate which is to care for the sick and the dying which is the chrism of the founder. I learned a lot of things inside like cleaning, cooking, washing my clothes or habits, and taking care of our dogs. And the best thing that I learned is about Prayer which is a personal conversation with God. Spending time inside the Chapel doing my adoration makes me immersed in God’s love and prayer is a gasoline to me in doing my apostolate to the elderly. I am teaching also Catechism to children telling them that God is the source of love for the humanity. I was assigned in the different places in the Philippines like Calbayog City, Cebu City, Vegan City, Cagayan de Oro City, Bogo City etc. and my work is just a secretary of the Bishop or in the Parish office which is more concerned about paper works and accounting regarding money which is also a boring experienced on part. Every year all of us will return to our Formation House just to have a retreat for the increase of our spiritual growth as sisters. Living in the convent demands challenges because I have to adjust the different personalities of the sisters and besides it deals with acquiring virtues most specially the virtue of humility which is the foundation of all virtue. The time comes that my father died that was my greatest temptation inside that I could not balanced myself. For me, that was the time that life in the convent seems boring doing routinary work. It makes me sad and I felt so much pity with my mother whom alone in our house. I am questioning myself that time if who will took care of my mother? who will console her pain? and who will be her companion everyday? It took me also years to think to decide of quitting my vocation. Yet, I appreciate that God is so good. He hears my prayer. I was able to make a good decision to went outside and I don’t have any regrets to myself because I felt so happy outside the world thinking that God has a purpose. It took me 13 years to live inside the convent. I work outside in our place in Claver Surigao del Norte as a parish secretary in the convent. Many times I teach the youth in Choir singing and playing guitar, but I was so interested to pursue and finish a course. It was the Bishop who help me in my studies. His named was Bishop Julito Cortes, the Bishop of Dumaguete City. He is an honest man and easy to deal with people, trustworthy and humble. Year 1911: I was enrolled in Visayas State University, a school here in Isabel, Leyte which is also a branch of Visca Baybay, the main campus of the school. At the start I was taking the course Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, but it took me only 1 semester and shift the course Associates in Computer Technology which is also a challenging course because it has a programming subject that most of us my classmates find it hard to do the programming solving problems in a C type of programming. But, in God’s grace I was able to graduate in this course. I graduated last May 27, 1914 and this is my happiest moment of having my diploma in College. It increases my self confidence to talk professional people and not having timid to myself. 7 months passed in the same year, I decided to study in Caregiver course because I missed my apostolate inside the convent of caring the elderly and I think this is my passion. While I am studying the caregiver’s course I enjoyed much in the group with my classmates inside our room in Tesda School. The first part of the Training was theory about elderly, child care, pet care etc. and the second part was application it emphasizes mostly in demo which is a graded exam by one of our teachers mostly are nurses. For me care giving is a challenging job, but fulfilling duty, since I am dealing with people who have disabilities in life. For me it is the time that I can establish rapport to people even if they are not my relatives or family but in my view we are one family because all of us are children of God. Besides, I want also to help my family in financial matters because I only belong to a poor family. With my experience I was having my OJT in OSPA hospital here in Ormoc, Orphanage for the children, Elderly homes in Danao, Cebu and my Red Cross training that includes CPR, First Aid which is also one of our subjects. Caring for the elderly people and child care is my passion and I love this kind of work which I enjoyed much talking to the elderly assisting them in their needs and giving them enough time and attention to be able to establish rapport since I am the kind of person who is lovable enough to people mostly those who are in need of care. I think I can be the best asset in your company since I can boast my skills not only caring for the elderly but I can also make people happy through singing, playing guitar and storytelling which other people likes. I am a down to earth person and a simple one fond of jokes thoughtful enough and responsible when it comes to work. With regards to my experience in my course as Associates in Computer Technology I was working in our School as an OJT which I experienced a lot of works to be done since I was assigned in the Office of the Registrar in our School. But I can assure that whatever works assigned to me I will do it with love. Being responsible is matured enough to do the things assigned.
