I enthusiastically recommend Shirley Rogers for the type of employment where the status or skills of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) are required. Ms. Rogers worked for my family from October 2016 through April 2017 as a caregiver and aid to my mother and assistant to my father. My mother has dementia, along with problems associated with incontinence and mobility (she travels short distances with a walker/cane and longer distance in a wheelchair). Besides assisting my mother (and sometimes my father) in daily activities, such as bathing and toileting, she took my mother on outings and helped her shop for clothes. During this period Ms. Rogers proved herself to be hardworking, thoughtful, and thoroughly competent professional. She established a real connection with my mother and cared for her more like a daughter than an employee. The two would often be found laughing together or discussing the flowers, reptiles or animals found outside the house. She also had a wonderful sense of my mother’s health issues. My mother is unable to express herself and thus might have an infection or other health issue, which requires some medical intuition. On a number of occasions, Ms. Rogers was very good at observing my mother’s behavior and figuring out that she needed medical attention. Ms. Rogers undertook these responsibilities under extremely difficult circumstances. During the time of her employment, my father was dealing with his diagnosis of end stage renal failure and the inevitability of dialysis. He began this process in Cleveland and then needed to re-establish the procedures in Florida. The fact that Ms. Rogers was able to competently balance these issues and continue to do her job as long as she did is a tribute to her strength as a person and loyalty to my mother for which I am truly grateful. I have no reservations recommending Ms. Rogers for any position involving caregiving as she is a compassionate individual who obviously enjoys helping others.
