I have been in the Home Health Aide / Caregiving career for 15 yrs now. I have a wide range of knowledge that deals with Cystic Fibrosis, Downs Syndrome, Speech Impairment, Mentally Challenged, Deafness, Blindness, Paralysis (1 entire side of body / from waist down / paralyzed arm), Grandma & Epileptic Seizure's, Colon Cancer & Colonscaphy bags & liver cancer, heart patients, Diabetics (checking glucouse sugar levels, giving insulin (in event patient is too high or too low to do themselves), Renal Failure, In working with these types of Special needs I have learned how to or have done these things: Checking sugar levels, measuring proper amounts of insulin & if necessary administering insulin, giving medication reminders or administration (due to what the patients needs are & after being properly trained), bathing / grooming / dressing, assisting walking, assisting to do bed to wheelchair / restroom or potty chair & shower, using Iv machine & giving meds by iv or feeding tube as well as using iv machine to use feeding tube if patient was unable to eat on their own, wound care for staph, dressing changes from permanent catheter, feeding tube, colonscaphy bags or any other needs for dressing wounds, using a wound vac, cooking cleaning, transporting to drs, grocery shopping or to interact or deal w/ any errands client/patient needs to do. I have also done the shopping (groceries, medications, clothing, checking or going to post office to pick up mail) for the client, house cleaning, laundry, meal planning / preparation & even feeding patient / client. or just to give companionship to them, range of motion exercises & to assist with whatever their therapy regimen is. I have also worked privately and beside hospice and family members. I have measured input/ output per day, kept a running journal of everything done for client each day so that any family, medical staff, or other caregiver's would know what I had done & where to pickup on the patients needs for each day, as well as keeping in steady constant contact w/ all caregiver's & family members daily and noting any changes in the health as well as alerting nurses & staff members so that any issues could be addressed promptly. Just whatever the patient / clients needs are I have done. There has never been a job I was unable to master. I love to know at the end of the day that I made someone's life easier.
