Sincerely, Jonah My clinical placement in Valleyview residence did not only give me Hands-on experience but gave me a better understanding of the twilight years. Duties: Assisted residents with tasks of daily living related to personal care such as grooming, bathing, toileting, dressing and oral care. Performed household management duties such as bed making and sorting of laundry. Provided assistance with nourishment such as feeding at meal time and for giving morning and afternoon snacks. Safely assisted to various transfers using Hoyer Lift. Responded to call bells and accessed appropriate person to meet resident’s needs. Adhering to the policies and procedures of the facility and ensuring resident’s safety. Participated in Fire Drill both in the morning and evening shift. Worked as effective member with positive attitude. During the placement I had the privilege to work with resident's who are able, partially unable, totally unable and those in their palliative state. Back in the Philippines, I worked part-time as a sitter/companion to a 65 year old lady while I was taking my Caregiving Course. As an extra pair of hand my duties are not limited to providing assistance in activities of daily living. I assisted in her medication administration and I became a friend, someone to talk to. One day while giving snacks to resident's I asked a lady if she wanted something to drink. She replied, "Yes please and someone to talk to." This incident served as my compass/direction of where/what I would like to be after the clinical training. I prefer to be a private sitter. I want not only to help in maintaining client's independence by providing assistance in their activities of daily living but to also cater to their emotional needs.
