Elder Care in Pickering, Ontario

Hello! My name is Kendra. I am a third year nursing student looking for a temporary full time or part time position caring for your loved one. I am a fun, responsible, compassionate, and friendly person, who loves to make people laugh. I have 6 years of experience caring for older adults and seniors, between volunteering and clinical rotations. In addition to providing care for your loved one, I can encourage activities and recreational games, as well as provide comforting support. I can also go for walks with them, or help out with housework, cooking and laundry. Providing the best care for people, especially at their most vulnerable, is my passion. Throughout highschool I volunteered at VIVA Pickering Retirement Home where I was the student coordinator of activities; I assisted with recreational games and the fitness program. For the past 2 years at university I have volunteered at Idlewyld Manor Long Term Care Facility as student nurse coordinator of activitie; here I organized games, helped out with birthday parties, church and other celebrations and also assisted with feeding the residents. I am entering my third year of nursing at McMaster University. So far I have had clinical experience on 2 units. During these placements I was able to develop excellent therapeutic communication with patients and family members, collaborate with various health care professionals to provide excellent patient care and be exposed to various interlinked health disorders and physical complications. During my rotations I was completely involved in the interdisciplinary care of older adult and senior patients, providing complete nursing care for up to 2 patients, while further assisting with other patients and nurses as needed On the Orthopedic Surgical Unit, I was caring for patients who had hip and knee replacements, as well as hip fracture. I administered medication, performed dressing changes and kept the patient comfortable. On the GI Disease and Palliative Care Unit, I also administered medications, dressing changes, injections, tube suctions, NG tube feedings and comfort measures. Working with seniors is what I love to do!
