I am a young retiree who is working toward a second career as a Health Care Aide (Red River College, part time) with several of the courses successfully completed. I LOVE seniors and focus my studies on work with the elderly. Experience with dementia: I have a loved one with dementia so family stresses and the need to provide advocacy are things I understand. I can provide assistance in the feeding of meals and monitoring needs. Those with dementia need stimulating activities which I can also assist with. Providing companionship with a carer's perspective: In my previous career, I provided information and assistance to people of all ages. I am very comfortable with connecting with people. I am empathetic and can provide a warm and friendly environment as a companion. Pets in the home welcome: Many families are expressing a concern about carers who are fearful of or distrust of the family pets. Pets are another passion and my German Shepherd Dog served as a therapy dog visiting residents with me at Lions Manor for three years. Pitbull, Persian cat, lizard or mouse -- I have cared for many kinds of pets and can provide assistance if needed. Other assists: Do you need light housekeeping help? Someone to ensure that your parent or loved one eats a nutritious lunch? Someone to walk with your loved one and the dog? Someone to look in evenings to provide structure and stimulation?
