I am looking for a female companion-caregiver for my brother 24/7 on 3-day weekends (Saturday mornings through to Tuesday mornings 7 am with a 5-hour break in daytime on Mondays 10 am to 3 pm.) This is a part-time live-in position in SE Calgary near Heritage Drive and Fairmont Drive. Each week the hours are: Saturday mornings starting at 9:30 am and staying till Tuesday mornings 7 am. On Mondays there is a 5-hour break from 10 am to 3 pm when someone else takes him out. The salary for the weekend package is $450 per weekend. The living-in is only for the 3-night weekend shift, not for the rest of the week. I am not able to sponsor under the Live-in Caregiver Program. This weekend shift is needed to give respite to the lady who is a live-in caregiver for all of the other evenings, overnights and mornings. My brother is healthy and mobile. You could spend the weekends cooking and eating and watching TV together, enjoying music, and going for big walks or out to a mall and so forth. Duties required include a full range of personal care tasks and housekeeping duties. Daily tasks include assistance with bathing, dressing, toileting, vitamin supplements, meal preparation and light housekeeping. Specific experience working with individuals with Dementia would be an asset. The client is in his 60s and has a very sweet cheerful personality. He enjoys music you can sing and dance to. He has a rare form of dementia that makes it difficult to use very many words or to do some tasks independently. But he understands what is going on, expresses himself with laughter and tone of voice with the few phrases he uses. He loves going for big walks, and enjoys good movies, watching hockey and being read to. There is an extra phone line in the house. The weekend companion-caregiver has the master bedroom and ensuite bathroom. There is good access to bus transportation and Chinook Shopping Centre. If the caregiver has her own car they could go to malls and parks more easily. He has a rare form of dementia that makes it difficult to use very many words or to do some tasks independently.
