Elder Care in Belmont, North Carolina

I have worked for over five years in assisted living/adult care homes with the elderly population and in the memory care community. Knowing how to provide care to these special individuals takes experience, understanding, patience, and love while ensuring they receive their food, medicines, are clean, bathed and clothed appropriately, and are engaged in an activity or conversation. There is so much to learn from older generations, and I appreciate the different senses of humor and personalities each have to offer. I've learned that, even though we may be awkward about needing help with physical activities because their bodies, we are still individuals with life stories to tell. While caring for others, I enjoy listening to them tell those stories, letting them talk and say the same thing over and over... because as long as they are talking, they aren't lonely, they aren't getting depressed, when they hear me ask questions and see me smile, they know someone cares about what they have to say, and they know they have someone who will help take care of them. It takes a while to earn their trust when it comes to certain things, such as changing them, or helping them dress, things of that nature, but I work hard. I gain that trust. I let them know I care. I have a mom, a dad, grandparents. I watched my great-grandmother struggle with Alzheimer's but could still engage her in a conversation. I remember another great-grandmother being very ill but determined to try to care for herself. They are the reasons I love to help others. I think outside of the box and will do whatever it takes to make sure the job is done. That job is making sure your loved one is safe, secure, cared for and loved.
