Hello, My name is Mira, and I live in Burlington L7S 1M5. From February, 2010 to August, 2014, I was my mother's live-in caregiver, best friend, and psychotherapist from her early to later stage Alzheimer's. It was heartbreaking to witness how this insidious and hideous disease had transformed a once vibrant, highly successful business woman, who gradually deteriorated cognitively and functionally, and was eventually reduced to living in a locked ward of a long-term care facility. It was during this time that I learned the true meaning of compassion, empathy, and unconditional love. I was also a caregiver/companion to a lady with mild dementia at Lakeshore Place Retirement Residence from September, 2015 to August, 2016. My experience has given me the necessary knowledge and personal attributes which would make me a valuable asset to any senior. I would like to be a caregiver to an elderly person with or without a form of dementia, and to help her maintain her independence at home by assisting with the activities of daily living. I do grocery shopping, light meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, bathing, sponge baths, personal care, transportation to medical appointments, out-patient procedures, and other destinations as required, errands, medication reminders and administration, encourage exercise, reading, recreational therapy in order to stimulate the mind, go on walks to get fresh air and a change of scenery, pet care, and whatever else I can do to improve your loved one's quality of life.
