I have been quite impressed with Nyasia Midgette's performance in the care of my wife, who is afflicted with a fairly late stage of Alzheimer's disease. First, the mundane elements of the work. Nyasia is very punctual, and whenever a scheduling conflict may develop, she contacts me via phone or e-mail or both, to give me time to work out coverage, as necessary. She comes ready to work and gets right to to it. While the main focus is, of course, to provide the best possible support to the patient, she takes care of the mechanics, as well, whether it is preparing a meal, cleaning up in the kitchen, organizing supplies, or any other needed activity. She does it all, and stays productively busy throughout each tour. Never an idle moment! When it comes to direct care of the patient, I am amazed at her gentle effectiveness. She provides the very important companionship as required, but can be firm in the more difficult duties, such as bathing and hair-washing, and never loses her composure in the face of extreme resistance from the patient. She bonds by friendly activities, such as providing fingernail polishing and the like, She has taught me how to administer multiple medications without difficulty, where I had been quite ineffective at it before, often duped by the patient, who had become a master of palming or otherwise defeating the pills. In summary, Nyasia Midgette, while very young, is extremely well-suited to the type of home care we needed. She has definitely helped to make our challenging situation much easier, and we are indebted to her for it..
