Elder Care in Columbus, Ohio

I'm an
Individual
I am presently a college student here at Ohio State University. While studying, I have become a certified home health aide, and I love the work! I have 4 years of professional experience working with the elderly and handicapped/disabled. I am offering private pay services to families who need help taking care of their loved ones. My expertise is not limited to the client's home (even if that is the preferred location, stuff happens). I have worked in assisted living facilities, hospitals, hospice centers, and rehabilitation clinics. I am equipped to properly transport a client. I can assist in using gate belts, draw sheets, Hoyer lifts, walkers, and wheelchairs. I have direct experience caring for client's with with Alzheimer's, dementia, PTSD, diabetes, cancer, ALS, down syndrome, Parkinson's, incontinence, heart disease, arthritis, COPD, Osteoporosis, gout, glaucoma, high blood pressure, anemia, strokes, and deafness- (I know two-handed American sign language). A few requirements with my previous company was that all caregivers had to be CPR and first aid certified, pass a background check, have 400 hours of online home health training with certifications of completion, and 50 hours of supervised on-the-job training with a registered nurse. I have experience with showering/bathing, changing depends, cleaning and applying dentures, helping get dressed, making meals, transport, first aid application, helping with medications, range of motion exercises, light physical therapy exercises, bed baths, light house work, etc. Beyond what is written in black and white, as a caregiver I have discovered that the biggest part of this job isn't written on paper. Providing mental and emotional support is HUGE. One must be able to be compassionate and genuinely caring, otherwise only the technical aspect of this job will be fulfilled. Other than my professional experience, I also have personal experience when I cared for my grandmother who developed Alzheimer's before her passing. Having personal experience is what drove me into pursuing this work, it provided me with a compassionate perspective on aging loved ones. I am presently in class Tuesday-Thursday 8:00am to 10:30am, if you would like to work out a schedule around that time, that would be fantastic!
