Hi, My name is Susie. I'm an artist and poet, aged 50. I've been stay-at-home mom since my 20s, and now my youngest is old enough for me to have free time. I volunteer with a local hospice, and the services I provide there are very similar to the time I'll spend with your loved one. Companionship is tailored to the needs of your loved one. Depending upon their interests, some of the activities can include listening to music, arts and crafts, reading, looking at photos, documenting the person's life stories... these are those little things that fall by the wayside when one ages and is reliant on others to help with day-to-day living. Sometimes the companion is the only person not involved with the poking and prodding of health care professionals. I am truly there to enrich the life of your loved one. Respite care is simply when family needs a break. I can run errands, do light housework and basic cooking. What I don't do is ANYTHING health-care related.
