Professional Caregiver Specializing in "Dementia" I am 63 years old "female" with 13 years of full-time working experience as a Private Caregiver with people diagnosed with Dementia. 99% of my clients had Dementia at various levels. I worked full-time as a live-in in Parksville with a Lady of 93 years of age diagnosed with Dementia. Sadly, she left us on 4 years ago. I spent the last 2 years working as a live-in 24/7 with another Lady in Nanaimo who also had Dementia. I was the only Caregiver. I am available for full-time work now. I am extremely flexible and accommodating to family members own schedules. My regular schedule in the last 2 years was based 5 to 6 consecutive weeks because of Covid19 and did not have another Caregiver to fill-in for me. It was fine as I just adored my client and we were out and about daily rain or shine. I reside in Nanaimo, but I am not restricted as to where I work on Vancouver Island or the Mainland which I have done over the last 13 years. I am single without children. I own my own home/property on 1.5 acre, Daily duties ; household management, shopping, cooking,"excellent cook" light housekeeping, clean kitchen after every meal, daily maintenance of bathrooms, main living area, foyer/entrance, laundry, gardening and looking after pets big or small, if any. Other duties and responsibility ; manage all appointments, renewal of prescriptions, dispensing medication from a blister pack, and record keeping of all medication taken and signed out. Monitoring and record keeping of the person's overall health, changes in demeanour either physically, emotionally, cognitively and psychologically. Prioritize health and safety. I like to keep my client involved in her social life, the community etc. Motivation and validation of the person in my care through positive support, encouragement and guidance. My working style is based on the Person Centered Care and the Bio-Psycho-Social Model. In other words, I deal with who the person is first as I cant change the progression of the illness. The person will be able to continue living independently with dignity, have a sense of worthiness and inclusion, which is empowering.The importance of having a permanent Caregiver plays a huge role in the life of the person diagnosed with Dementia. It allows for a strong and trusting relationship to develop which is the most important part of working with a person who has dementia, A Trust relationship creates a sense of safety, security for the client as she knows she can rely on her helper. It allows the caregiver and client to adapt to all changes and to journey together as the illness takes its course. I use various Cognitive Stimulation Therapy ; reminiscence, music, dancing, some crafts, painting, walks, cooking, pool exercises if permitted/capable. I love to take my client out daily for a walk, go out for lunch, drive around the Country Side, stop a the Farmer's Market to buy fresh produce, or take a picnic and go to the beach or a beautiful Park. My personality is very uplifting, positive, gregarious with a great sense of humour. I welcome a good laugh anytime. I can travel with my client for short or long periods of time if needed. I have a valid Passport. I am fluent in French and English. It is in trust and knowledge that we can walk the road less travel. Thank you for your time and consideration.
