Elder Care in Cincinnati, Ohio

I'm an
Individual
To whom this may concern, I am writing in regards to employment as a care-giver/companion/home-aid. I am a 55-year-old woman, have worked as an elder home-care provider for over two years, and finished the Occupational Therapy Assistant coursework at Cincinnati State 3 years ago. As baby-boomer with elderly parents, I can empathize with aging people and their families. Having been independent their entire adult lives, and having been family care-takers themselves, they are now arriving at a phase of life with new requirements and limitations, and finding that they are now the ones in need of help. Coming to this realization is often the hardest pill to swallow. And the thought of having to leave their much-loved homes, with all the precious memories they hold, is the most stressful of all their worries. My sincere desire is to help them stay independent and at home for as long as possible. Some of the services I provide include: • • Home assessment and modifications. • Bathing, toileting, dressing, and transfers. • Grocery-shopping. • Meals. • Medication dispensing. • Driving to and from appointments. • Massage (not certified). • Hot and cold therapies for arthritis. • Gentle yoga therapeutics designed for the elderly. • Water therapies. • Outings to preferred activities (museums, movies, theater, picnics, ball games, shopping, etc.). • Laundry and light-cleaning. • Companionship for those living alone. People need to feel connected to others, to have someone to tell their stories to and share their insights with, and to feel they are needed, in order to stay engaged in life. Additionally, I’ve been a yoga teacher and teacher-trainer for 21 years, with over 1000 hours of training in functional anatomy and therapeutics, and am certified by the National Yoga Alliance as a teacher trainer. I specialize in a therapeutic style, which I use to manually move my clients while they are lying or seated. My clients include people with MS and Parkinson’s; pre-and post-surgeries for knee, shoulder and lower back operations; arthritis pain; and I even teach “wheelchair yoga.” Much like physical therapy, this keeps joints from stiffening, muscles from weakening, and promotes optimum blood flow. And, as we know, movement of any kind is also good for mood and brain health. Finally, I believe that people of my age often have a better understanding of how to care for an elderly person, a sincere desire to be useful, and have greater compassion and empathy for the people we serve. I remember that the person I’m serving could be my own parent. And that I will be the one in need some day.
