I want to provide the same loving; nurturing, caring environment that you would provide for your special needs person if they could be home with you full time. From 2010 –... my husband and I provided part time and full time private respite care for an autistic teen until she reached 19 years of age, at which time she moved into the care of CLBC. We had a wonderful time engaging her in everyday life. Playing games, graduating from high school, learning skills in the kitchen, new responsibilities, self-awareness, safety, appropriate dressing and social skills, providing safe transport with handi dart to and from work, attending dance classes etc. She became a huge part of our family, going with us wherever we went ie: shopping, visiting family and friends, camping, movies, going out for dinner and participating in everyday household chores. Over time, she learned her self-worth as a teen and began to blossom into a woman.
