Since 2017 I have worked as a caregiver in nursing home institutions where I assist residents with dementia, Alzheimer's disease and persons with disabilities with their daily living needs. I work under the guidance of a registered nurse to help implement and support resident-care plans, which include providing services to aid in memory care, physical care and psycho-emotional care optimizing residents quality of life. I also performed some nursing procedures such as Vital Signs taking and recording, input and output monitoring, assisting male and female catheter insertion and removal, assisting to change endotracheal tube and tracheostomy tube, assisting in wound dressing, NGT feeding, colostomy bag cleaning and changing, patient position changing and back tapping, patient bathing, assisting patient from be to wheelchair and vice versa, giving medication, suctioning (endotracheal tube, tracheostomy tube, mouth and nose), nebulization, assisting patient in activities of daily living. I had also attended a First Aid and Basic Life support seminar. It can be challenging at times but I truly enjoy working with elderly residents. Though I strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the residents, the ongoing lessons I have learned from them have in return made a lasting impact in my life.
