Elder Care in Portland, Oregon

I'm a people oriented individual and am highly driven by my desire to serve and help those who need compassionate care. My first experience with providing professional care for another was when I was 19. In exchange for living with my aunt, I was tasked with caring for an elderly friend of hers. I provided the daily grooming, cooking, and physical and social needs of an 80 year old woman who was mostly on bed rest. Two years later I became a mother to a handicapped son with Spina Bifida and many medical needs. I had to learn how to care and be an advocate for my son. He recently passed away at the age of 35. In his last few years of life, he became medically fragile, and required full-time care. I became his full-time caregiver for the last 2 years of his life and was responsible for administering medications, tube feedings, helping with daily grooming and self-care, housekeeping, laundry, and cooking. I was also responsible for communicating with doctors, physical therapists, and the rest of the medical team, as well as accompanying him to doctor appointments and surgeries. I am hoping to provide similar services to another, in addition to: Friendly and personalized care In-home Services Scheduling Social Outings and Appointments Household management Communicating with patient, family, and medical team I love spending time with my family and friends, playing with my dog, cooking and baking, reading, shopping, and making a difference in the lives of others.
