Hi there, My name is Courtney McCarthy I am a Certified Health Care Aide in Medicine Hat, Alberta I currently work for We Care Home health services, the vast majority of my residents are elderly. I have been certified since 2004 and have done a bit of everything. I have worked with people who have mental and physical disabilities, with some of the individuals displaying verbal and physical aggression. I have worked in home care setting, nursing home settings, congregate living settings, and in settings where the residents are needing services for memory-care issues. I have, from the time I was little, always wanted to help people in some way, shape or form. I knew from that age that I had a calling in this world to make a difference in the lives of others. I have been described as an old soul, empath, and wise beyond my years. These are character traits that I have learned to embrace with open arms thus allowing me the ability to really plant my feet in another persons shoes, to feel what they feel, to want what they want, to hear them, to listen, to be someone who is genuinely there for no other purpose but to help and learn a few things along the way. I always provide care from the standpoint, that one day, I will be there too, I will need the help, I will need the empathy, the compassion, the patience, the love, and the companionship of another human being. I will want to feel alive and cared about. I will want to be treated with dignity, I will want my care to be as least intrusive as possible, I will want to be comfortable, I will want to feel validated on my bad days, and joined with laughter and love on my good days, I will want what it is they want. The above approach to the care that I provide is driven by my passion, motivation and whole-hearted belief that all people are entitled to care that is carried out in way that offers the dignity and respect that they so deserve.
