Elder Care in Camilla, Georgia

I'm an
Individual
I first started in 1998 & continued thru 2018. I was fortunate enough to have long term clients. I never knew my grandparents so each individual or couple filled that void for me. I felt like their sharing their stories & lives with me..made my life all the more enriched, but ultimately..made me a much better caregiver. I was able to make a positive difference for each of the clients I had! In the past during my caregiving experiences I cooked, cleaned, was a companion, became familiar with a dairy operation, learned a lot about all the aspects of involvement with cattle. Learned to fish, shot a gun, play a very challenging game called RUMMYQ, got a gentleman to return to a church he had previously served in & was a member of for a long time. Became like a member of my client's families.. Took them to doctor appointments within a 50 mile radius, had a diabetic clients to whom I administered insulin to & checked their blood sugar levels. Adapted diets to serve certain conditions for better health. Shopped for personal, groceries, handled bank accounts, tax stuff, other various financial transactions. Did laundry , took care of pets, kept vehicles gassed up & got regular maintenance done. I have been a non- smoker all my life! None of my clients it turned out, were of the same thought! We spent a lot of time doing things together. My method of care was I took care of each of them like they were my own family. It was really a lovely situation in each case. In some cases I was the ONLY caregiver from the outside, in others there might have been a team of 4 of us! It varied from job to job. My ideal would be to have at least a 3 or 2 person team. That would low for some weekends off, and then alternate days of Monday thru Thursday to vary. I stayed at people's houses, and then I worked .many 8 to 10 hr. Shifts. You need to be a team that works together consistently, You need to support each other and work together for the benefit of your client, and step up if at times there needs to be a schedule change. You try to make as many acomadations as possible. I sort of became a pretty good scheduler! I am pretty good at compromise and don't like any tension. I enjoyed decorating for holidays, attending outside activities of their choices, and making birthdays SPECIAL ! I CAN PROVIDE LETTERS OF REFERENCE FROM MOST OF THE FAMILIES I WORKED WITH, IDID BECOME FAMILIAR WITH SOME SPECIAL BREATHING EQUIPMENT, TRIED TO DEVELOP A RELATIONSHIP WITH WHAT DOCTORS I COULD. BECAME ACQUAINTED WITH THE PHARMACIES AND PHARMACISTS! I LEARNED ALOT FROM HOME HEALTHCARE PEOPLE WHO CAME TO THE HOMES. I HAVE ALL THE COVID VACCINES, THE SHINGES SHOT,AND THE ONE TIME PNUEMONIA SHOT. I DON'T HAVE ANY SPECIAL CREDENTIALS ON PAPER. Try to stay prepared for bad weather. Pack meds for trips & refill prescriptions whenever necessary. Keep client up on regular checkups, tests required, including dental & visual needs.Find out about alarm systems, check and keep doors locked at all times. Post emergency numbers on the frig. Take care of pets as needed. Have regular appliance, Ac/ heat checked out. Make sure there are several flashlights & night lights throughout the house. Listen to severe weather reports. Very seldom if possible do not leave my client[s] alone for any length of time over 30 minutes if it is safe to do it. Otherwise I will take them with me to check my mail or something like that. Always have a phone right by them to reach..my cell phone on & with me at all times I might leave if required.
