Elder Care in Calgary, Alberta

I'm an
Individual
My name is Zoe, as of right now I mainly work in a volunteer setting with Alberta Health Services but I also have my HCA certificate and am a practicing herbalist. I work with natural medicine with a focus on education as well as nutritional support and stress management which is a formal way of saying I have long talks with people and then make them helpful things. I love bingo and puzzles and having conversations about the weather; reading out loud and going for very slow walks while holding hands. Although I have never been the sole caregiver, I have been a respite worker and a companion for several lovely individuals in various stages of need (ranging from temporary hospitalization to end of life care, I\'m usually assigned to the acute transition ward in the Drumheller hospital which is where I currently live) and have experience in hospice, hospital and home settings. I am smart with an excellent sense of humor and am fairly laid back and mild mannered. I understand how difficult the ageing process can be to witness and how the confusing tumult of emotions associated with it tend to make simple things seem impossibly draining. It sucks, even if you\'re not dealing with it alone, and although it may seem inappropriate to seek help for your loved one it\'s often the best circumstance for all those involved. Since I will be moving back to Calgary in April with no prior commitments, I will have a completely open schedule initially until life does that settling thing and I can start arranging my schedule. If you\'re interested or in need, feel free to contact me with questions/comments/concerns or to ask for references or just have a conversation :) I have my Health Care Aide certificate which is directed for hands on care of persons. My experience mainly focuses around different types of dementia; I have been a companion for several individuals mainly within a hospital setting and volunteer with Alberta Health Services for recreational outings and activities with long term care residents. Examples of duties include light house keeping, medication reminders, help with ADLs (brushing teeth, styling hair, makeup if applicable, personal hygiene), lifts and transfers, companionship/respite care etc.
