Elder Care in Newmarket, Ontario

My name is Emma and I am almost 19 years old. I am currently enrolled in a Activation coordinator / Gerontology program at George Brown College. I truly enjoy helping the elderly, ever since I was young I was raised around many older people and I have always loved spending time with them and being of help towards them. I believe in today day many seniors are dismissed and people don\'t always want to have anything to do with them, but I am different. I would do anything to be able to give back to Senior Citizens for all that they have given to this world in their years on earth. I am eager to help them with whatever their needs are, and I would even love to just sit and visit with them. I have a Food Handlers Certificate. All I know is I am in my happy place when working with older people and I think I am a great person to help your parent/ family member. I have both worked in a Long Term Care Home where I completed a placement there , as well as I did in home Senior care for 1 year with a lady who was 93 years old. For a year I did in home care for an hour each day after school. I went in and visited a 93 year old lady, who for the most part needed someone to talk to. But I not only helped by giving her someone to talk to I also helped by warming up/ preparing her food, getting and reminding her to take her medications, I would get her mail for her and the odd time I would clean whatever she needed cleaned in her apartment. I also just recently completed a school placement at a Long Term Care Home, where I helped bring the residents to and from meals, as well as assisted them in eating. I ran and assisted in programs ranging from fitness groups to crafts, to church services . I did many 1:1's and also wet out on some outings with them.
