Elder Care in Maple Ridge, British Columbia

I have a great deal of respect for Seniors, and enjoy spending time with them, listening to their experiences and stories, and helping with their comfort. In my personal life, I have seen the difference that it can make when a Senior feels there is someone to help out and just spend time with, and that they are not alone trying to sort through the changes happening in their life and health. Keeping a level of conversation and stimulation up is very important to their well being. I am married with two grown children, and live in Maple Ridge. I love pets, having a dog and two cats, and enjoy going for walks on the dikes. I have experience with aging family members, and understand the frustration and confusion that can come up through either mental or physical health deterioration. I am looking for an opportunity to help Seniors and make a positive difference. My experience with seniors has been on a personal level, most recently helping my aging mother. We speak daily and get together regularly to go shopping and walks with the dog. While she does still drive short distances, I go with her on longer outings. She has been having troubles with memory and I help her with the frustration and worry this causes. I also helped my grandmother when she was getting older, taking her to appointments, on shopping trips, and regularly checking in on her to make sure she was ok. Companionship was a key to her comfort. For the past year I have been volunteering at the Maple Ridge Senior Recreation Centre, working in the lunch food services or on cash. This provides me with regular interaction with many different Seniors providing them with quality service with a smile. I feel that I learn a great deal from listening to the experiences of seniors, and very much enjoy their company.
