I believe that everyone has value and the difficulties faced by a senior in leaving his/her own home to move in with a relative or to a facility. I am challenged to find a way to help them feel useful. I do not shy away from difficult discussions ie. bereavement, death & dying (am also a funeral director)and will find music they enjoy to listen to, play or sing. ex. If they like gardening, we will garden. I also understand the family, having a mother with an ABI, and I facilitate a support group for ABI caregivers and survivors. While I work part time at present as a PSW Coordinator, I would like to work with your family member(s)as well and feel I would be a real asset to your team. Have worked with seniors in a nursing home and as a rehab support worker when they've suffered an acquired brain injury, or have dementia. My own mother has an ABI and is developing dementia. Some have had diabetes, some have other illnesses or are recovering from surgery. Some have emotional or mental or physical difficulties.
